Brent Weaver: Recordings
Two fine recordings of my organ music:
Singing at the FIre:
Voices of Anabaptist Martyrs
A powerful recording by organist Shirley King of the work she commissioned, Singing at the Fire (1996). Based on stories of Anabaptist Martyrs and evocative poems by Sarah Klassen, this work is surrounded by Anabaptist hymns sung by the Eastern Mennonite University choir led by Ken Nafziger, and features my anthem based on Felix Manz’ I Sing With Exultation (translated by Marion Wenger) composed especially for this album.
Pipedreams Premieres, Vol. 2
My Fanfares and Antiphons (1992) opens this album, and I’m honored by the company: there are works by Steve Paulus, Libby Larsen and Guy Bovet.
“The opening track is Brent Weaver's brash Fanfares and Antiphons (1992), written for an organ competition at Spivey Hall at Clayton State College in Morrow, Georgia. Susan Klotzbach, who won the competition, recorded the piece on the hall's dynamic Italian-built Ruffatti concert organ, which she uses fully.”
-- Michael Barone, host of Pipedreams
A new recording by saxophonist Joseph Wytko:
A brand new recording of the third movement, Psalm, from the larger Sonata for Saxophone, Percussion and Piano (1985). Dr. Wytko is an amazing and internationally-recognized performer, so it’s an honor to have my work included on this album. Other works on the album include two standards of the saxophone repertoire, Desenclos’ Prelude, cadence et finale, and Ibert’s Concertino da Camera, as well as brilliant new works by William Albright and Mikel Kuehn.
